Regions
The regions of Bulutistan Cloud, how a project gets its region, and how a region decides which products and options you can use in it.
A region is a location where Bulutistan Cloud runs a cloud. Every project belongs to one region, and the resources of the project run there.
Region names and codes
The regions that your platform offers include this one:
| Region | Code | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Istanbul 1 | ist-1 | Bulutistan data centers in Türkiye |
The console shows the region's name, for example in the top bar next to the project. The REST API uses the code. GET /account/whoami returns the region of each of your subscriptions and projects.
Regions and projects
| Rule | Details |
|---|---|
| A project has one region | A new project is provisioned into the region of its subscription. |
| The region can't change | To use another region, use a project in that region. |
| Resources stay in the project's region | A create request through the REST API that names another region is refused with 422 Unprocessable Entity, the field region, and details.reason set to region_mismatch. Nothing is created. |
For where your data is kept, see Data residency.
Products and regions
Most products run on services of the region's cloud, so each region decides whether you can use them. A product is available in a region when all of these are true:
- The region's cloud runs the services that the product needs.
- The platform supports those services.
- Bulutistan hasn't switched the product off in the region.
| Depends on the region | Doesn't depend on the region |
|---|---|
| Virtual Machines, Images, Snapshots, key pairs, Block Storage, Object Storage, Backup Center, Virtual Networks, Security Groups, Floating IPs, Load Balancers, Site-to-Site VPN | Identity & Access Management, OpenStack API Access, billing and Cost Management, Monitoring & Alerts, Activity Log, Resource Explorer, the network topology |
When a product isn't available in the project's region:
- In the console. The product is left out of the menu and the command palette. A link to one of its pages shows that the product isn't offered in the region, and says: This project's region cannot be changed. To use it, open a project in a region that offers it. Anything you already have in other projects is unaffected.
- In the REST API. A request that would create something new in the product is refused with
404 Not Foundand a message that the product isn't available in the region. The request can't succeed later without a change in the region, so don't retry it. - Existing resources. You can still read, change, and delete the resources that you already have in the product.
Options that depend on the region
Some options inside a product depend on the region too:
| Option | Where to read more |
|---|---|
| Volume types | Volume types |
| Encryption at rest for volumes and images | Encryption |
