Manage subscriptions and projects

Switch between projects, create subscriptions and projects, rename and move projects, choose your default project, and delete the ones you no longer need.

You manage your subscriptions and projects from the scope picker in the top bar. Select the subscription name or the project name to open its list. For what subscriptions and projects are, see Tenants, subscriptions, projects, and regions.

The settings and delete icons of a row appear when you point to the row. They aren't available on a narrow screen.

Before you begin

TaskRole you need

An owner can allow other members to create projects. See Allow a member to create projects.

Switch to another project

Select a tenant, a subscription, or a project in the top bar. The console stays on the same kind of page where it can: from an instance's page, for example, you land on the instance list of the other project.

To switch between the projects of the current subscription from the keyboard, use Switch project in the command palette. See Find your way around the console.

Create a subscription

Each organization can have a limited number of subscriptions. When you reach the limit, you can't create more.

In the top bar, select the subscription name to open the subscription list.

Select New subscription.

In Name, enter a name. Use English letters, digits, spaces, and basic punctuation, with at least one letter or digit.

In Region, select the region for the subscription's projects.

In Billing currency, select TRY, USD, or EUR. The default is USD. You can't change the currency later. See Currency.

Select Create subscription.

The subscription is created with a default project named core, and you get the Owner role on the subscription. When the project is ready, the console opens it.

The subscription's ID is derived from its name. Names don't have to be unique: if the ID is taken, a number is added to it. A subscription can't be renamed.

Create a project

Each subscription can have a limited number of projects. When you reach the limit, you can't create more.

In the top bar, select the project name, and then select New project.

In Name, enter a name. Use English letters, digits, spaces, and basic punctuation, with at least one letter or digit.

Select Create project.

The console sets up the project and then opens it. The project runs in the subscription's region. You get the Owner role on the new project, and the project receives a starter allocation of the subscription's quota. See Quotas. The project's ID is derived from its name and never changes.

Rename a project

In the top bar, open the project list, point to the project's row, and select its settings icon.

Enter the new name, and select Rename project.

Only the display name changes. The project keeps its id, its cloud project and everything inside it. The new name must differ from the names of the other projects in the subscription, ignoring case.

Move a project to another subscription

A project can move to another subscription of your organization when:

  • the target subscription has the same currency and the same region;
  • the target subscription has room for another project;
  • the current subscription keeps at least one project; and
  • you have the Owner role granted on both subscriptions.

In the top bar, open the project list, point to the project's row, and select its settings icon.

Select the target subscription. The list offers only subscriptions in the same currency.

Select Move project.

The project keeps its ID and everything in it. From the next full hour, its usage is billed to the target subscription. For what else changes, such as invoices, credits, and quota, see When a project moves.

Choose your default project

In the project list, select Make default to make the current project your default. You can also set it under SettingsPreferences, in Default project.

After you sign in, the console opens the project that you last worked in on this browser. If there's none, or you no longer have access to it, the console opens your default project.

Delete a project

Caution

Deleting a project permanently deletes every resource in it. You can't undo it.

You can delete a project that isn't the one you're working in and isn't the last project of its subscription.

In the top bar, open the project list, point to the project's row, and select its delete icon.

Review what the project holds. The dialog counts its resources by category, and lists them by name on request.

Tick the confirmation for the whole project and the one for each category, and select Delete project.

The platform deletes the project's resources and then the project. Its quota allocation is freed.

Delete a subscription

You can delete a subscription that isn't the one you're working in. Its projects must no longer hold any resources: the delete is refused while any of them does.

In the top bar, open the subscription list, point to the subscription's row, and select its delete icon.

Confirm with Delete subscription.

The subscription and its projects are removed.
