Search, group, and export resources
Search and filter a project's resources, group the table, choose columns, set tags or delete in bulk, and export the filtered rows as CSV.
Use Resource Explorer to find resources across services, check their tags and costs, act on several at once, and save the list as a CSV file.
Before you begin
- To see the resources in the list, you need Read access to their areas on the project or its subscription: Compute / Instances for instances, Block & Object Storage for volumes, and Networking for networks, security groups, and Floating IPs. The Reader role has all three.
- To set tags or delete resources, you need Manage access to their area, for example with the Owner or Contributor role.
Open Resource Explorer
In the console, go to All resources.
You can also start from a search: in the top bar, select Search resources, or press ⌘K, type part of a name, and select Search all resources for “web”. Resource Explorer opens with that search.
At the top, tiles show the number of resources, their month-to-date cost, the number of services and regions, and the resources per service. All of them count the rows that match your search and filters.
Search and filter
To search, type in Search name, id, type, tag…. The table updates as you type.
To filter, select values under Type, Service, Region, Status, and Tags in the Filters panel. To show or hide the panel, select Filters.
To remove a filter, select its chip above the table. To remove them all, select Clear all.
- Search matches part of a resource's name, ID, type, service, or project ID, or a tag written as
key=value. Upper and lower case don't matter, and Turkish letters match however you type them. - Filters combine: a resource must match each filter group. Within one group, any selected value matches, so selecting two tags shows resources with either tag.
- Counts next to each value show how many resources have that value and match the other active filters.
The count above the table, for example 12 of 33, shows the matching rows against all rows.
Group and choose columns
To group the table, select Group by type, Group by service, Group by region, or Group by project in the Group by list. Groups are sorted by size, largest first.
To show or hide columns, select Columns, and turn columns on or off.
| Column | Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | The name, the type, and the ID. Select the row to open the list of that type, such as the instance list. |
| Project | The project's ID. |
| Region | The region selected in the console. |
| Status | The common status. See What the statuses mean. |
| Monthly cost | The spend since the 1st of the month. — means no spend is recorded for it this month, or it isn't billed right now, for example while an instance is paused. |
| Tags | Up to three tags, and how many more. |
| Created | How long ago the resource was created. |
What the statuses mean
Each service's own status maps onto one common status:
| Type | Running | Stopped | Other |
|---|---|---|---|
| Virtual machine | Active, or in rescue mode. | Stopped or suspended. | Paused: paused. Provisioning: being built. Updating: resizing, waiting to confirm a resize, or being deleted. Error: in error. |
| Block volume | Available or attached: both show as running. | — | Provisioning: being created. Error: in error. |
| Virtual network | Active. | Down. | Provisioning: being built. Error: in error. |
| Security group | Always. | — | — |
| Floating IP | Active. | Any other status. | — |
To see whether a volume is attached, or a resource's exact status, look it up in its service's list.
Act on several resources
Select the resources with the checkboxes. The checkbox in the header selects every row that matches your search and filters.
In the bar at the bottom, select Edit tag or delete.
Set a tag. Enter a key and a value, and select Apply. Each selected resource gets the tag. If it already has the key, its value is replaced, and its other tags stay. This works for virtual machines and volumes only. With other types selected, Edit tag isn't available.
Delete. Confirm in Delete 3 resources?. Each resource is deleted the same way as from its own page; for a Floating IP, that means releasing it. You can't undo it.
Deletion is permanent
Deleting permanently removes the selected resources in the cloud. Check the selection before you confirm.
The console reports how many deletions started or how many resources were tagged, and how many failed. Failed resources stay selected, so you can check them and try again.
Export the list
Set up the search and the filters.
Select Export CSV.
The browser downloads every row that matches your search and filters, named after your subscription and project: resources-<subscription-id>-<project-id>.csv. <subscription-id> and <project-id> are their IDs. The file has these columns: id, name, type, service, region, project, status, createdAt, tags, monthlyCostMinor, and monthlyCost.
typeandstatushold internal values, such assecurityGroupandrunning.tagslists the tags askey=value, separated by semicolons.monthlyCostis the month-to-date cost with two decimal places, andmonthlyCostMinorthe same amount in ten-thousandths.
Result
The table shows the resources that match your search, filters, and grouping, and the file contains those rows.
Troubleshooting
| Message | Cause | Resolution |
|---|---|---|
| No resources yet | The project has none of the five resource types. | Create an instance, a volume, or a network. |
| No matching resources | No resource matches the search and the filters. | Select Clear all filters. |
| Couldn’t load resources | One or more services didn't answer. | Reload the page. |
| Failed to delete 1 resource | The platform refused to delete the resource in its current state. | Find the resource in its service's list, and delete it from there to see the reason. |
